5 Images to Capture of Your Products

As an eCommerce business, the images you put on your website and social media accounts are often the first impression potential customers are getting of your products. It’s at this moment that they’re going to make a decision on whether or not to make a purchase. This is why it is especially important to put your products forward in the best possible way, starting with product photography.

We absolutely understand that when you’re just starting out, photography isn’t necessarily an investment that is at the top of your list of things to do, but it’s one that will allow you to make a great first impression. After all, an image is worth a thousand words! Once you’ve made the decision to invest in product photography, it’s not only important to work with a photographer that specializes in product photography (it’s truly a completely different type of photography!) but it’s important to get the right types of images.

Not sure what to expect or what types of images you should make a priority? We’re breaking down exactly what type of images to capture of your products and why they’re important.

5 Images to Capture of Your Products

eCommerce Shots

While not the prettiest, eCommerce images are the ones you’ll be utilizing for product listings. Oftentimes they’re on a plain white background to really show the product without any distractions. These will also be the images you’ll connect to Meta to have a Facebook or Instagram “storefront” so that customers can purchase directly through the platforms.

Individual Shots

While it may seem like individual shots would be the same as eCommerce shots, they're not! These types of images are typically more styled, but only show one product. This allows customers to know what type of product they’ll be getting, what it looks like, and allows you to highlight the product on its own on your website and through social media.

Detailed Shots

These types of shots are so important because they help customers know what they’re purchasing. When working with clients on detail shots of their products, we’ll highlight product consistency, packaging, and other small details of a specific product.

Styled Shots

As you can probably guess, these types of images of your products are more styled. Usually, there will be multiple products in one shot and there will be props in the shot to bring the products to life. Depending on what type of product you sell, these props can vary but a few favorites include:

  • Ceramic dishes

  • Driftwood

  • Concrete platforms

  • Cellophane and tinsel

Lifestyle Shots

Lifestyle imagery is such an important aspect of product photography. These are the images that are going to bring your products to life and show customers how your products can be part of their everyday lives. When capturing lifestyle shots of your images, we’ll work with talented models and in gorgeous spaces to capture your products being used by a real person. These types of product photography sessions are always my favorite because they capture a product in a real way instead of just sitting in front of a backdrop.
