The Ultimate Guide to Boston Photoshoot Locations

Dartmouth Street

Dartmouth Street runs between Back Bay and the South End, and has so many incredible homes to shoot in front of. I also love that there are a bunch of streets off Dartmouth that are so charming if you’re shooting multiple looks and want to get a variety of backdrops, you won’t have to walk too far.

Keep in mind that Dartmouth Street (and the South End in general!) have trash day on Tuesday and Friday and the trash is placed on the sidewalks. If you’re planning out your shoot, try to avoid mornings on these days!

Boston Public Library

The Boston Public Library is an iconic location to shoot at in Boston! The facade is absolutely stunning and is a nice break to all the brick throughout the city. The BPL is also centrally located in Back Bay, making it easy to move to other locations throughout the city, including Comm Ave and Beacon Hill (more on these below!).

There’s also a darling courtyard in the center but be sneaky, they don’t allow photography!

Commonwealth Avenue

Running down the middle of Back Bay, Commonwealth Avenue feels like something out of a movie. Between the tree-lined street mall running down the middle of the street and gorgeous buildings, you’ll want to take pictures every five feet you walk down Comm Ave.

The great thing about this location is that with the sun and shadows, you can always get great shots on at least one side of the street! It also ends at the Public Garden, which offers another gorgeous backdrop for photos!

Boston Public Garden

This gorgeous park is situated in the heart of Boston and is filled with gorgeous flowers, extra-friendly squirrels, swan boats, and a bridge that will instantly transport you into your favorite romance film. Whether you want the skyline as your backdrop, want picnic vibes for an upcoming brand campaign, or just want photos that are less city, add the Public Garden to your list of Boston photoshoot locations.

Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill is without a doubt one of the most well-known neighborhoods of Boston and for good reason. It’s home to the famous Acorn Street (more on this below!), so many cute shops and restaurants, and has the cutest brownstones. Basically, every corner you take is Instagrammable but if you’re looking for a great photo opportunity without too much brick (I know, I know), the intersection of Mt. Vernon Street and Cedar Street are so pretty!

Acorn Street

Another iconic Boston location, Acorn Street is located in the charming Beacon Hill neighborhood. While it is a more tourist-y photoshoot location, it really is a must-visit location for photos at least once! The street does get crowded, so plan your photoshoot for first thing in the morning. The earlier the better!

Christian Science Plaza

Situated next to the Prudential Center in Back Bay, the Christian Science Plaza offers so many stunning backdrops. From tree-lined sidewalks and the reflecting pool to The Mother Church and the Mary Baker Eddy library, there is so much variation in this plaza. I love the feel of the cement buildings and orbe lights around the plaza. They give photos such a fun vibe.

Fan Pier

Seaport is a really cool up and coming neighborhood located on the waterfront of Boston. Filled with shops and restaurants, it has more of a modern feel with glass buildings, apartment buildings, and the like. I love the clean lines of the Seaport buildings for photos but Fan Pier is not to be missed! Fan Pier has a ton of variety for your photoshoot. You’ll find gorgeous views of the city, a quiet walking area, and lots of benches during your time here.

Studio B

I’m going to cheat here for a second… while all of these locations are outside and free, I’d kick myself for not sharing this studio space with you. Located in South Boston (aka Southie), Studio B is a stunning boutique daylight studio. The space features 1,600 square feet of space, 13-foot ceilings, and stunning picture windows overlooking the Boston skyline. Not to mention the decor of my dreams. I love that this space has a living, dining, and kitchen space, too, to give your photos variety. Even though Studio B is not free, it’s definitely worth your time and money.
